“Garbage Dreams”

Found out about this 2009 documentary film today:

With no official sanitation services, Cairo’s 18 million residents have for decades relied on zabbaleen (Arabic for “garbage people”) to collect their waste, which the zabbaleen do with enviable thoroughness — and an 80 percent recycling rate. Filming over four years, Ms. Iskander highlights three charismatic youths as they face competition from foreign companies with more mechanized, if significantly less green, methods. http://movies.nytimes.com/2010/01/06/movies/06garbage.html?scp=407&sq=&st=nyt
